Softball Splits Doubleheader on Final Day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – Lesley University used a six run fifth inning to power themselves to a 9-1 victory over Babson College in six innings in game one of their southern trip finale this morning at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla. The Lynx fell victim to an 11-0 defeat in the second game of their doubleheader against Plattsburgh State and will return to Cambridge with a 2-6 record.

Game One: Lesley 9, Babson 1 (Final – 6 Innings)

Lynx sophomore Mekenzi Golden (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) supplied the big hit in the fifth inning as she connected for a bases-loaded double that scored all three runs as Lesley claimed their first lead of the day, 3-1.

Freshman Jillian Sbardella (Dartmouth, Mass.) followed Golden with an RBI single of her own before classmate Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) blasted the first home run of her career as the Lynx took a commanding 6-1 lead.

The Lesley offense did not slow down in the sixth as junior Sleena Quezada (West Covina, Calif.) connected for an RBI single before Goggin knocked in two more with a single of her own as the Lynx rolled to the 9-1 victory.

Lynx hurler Alyson Nisbet (Clovis, Calif.) was excellent in the circle as she went the distance, scattering eight hits and striking out three.

Goggin paced the offense as she finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored while Golden finished 1-4 with three RBI. Freshman Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) drew a game-high three walks and came around to score twice from the number nine slot in the lineup.

Game Two: Plattsburgh St. 11, Lesley 0 (Final – 5 Innings)

The Cardinals banged out 15 hits and scored two or more runs in four out of five innings as they rolled to the 11-0 win.

PSU junior pitcher Morgan Anderson kept the Lesley lineup off balance all game long as she allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out five to earn the win.

Three of Lesley's four hits in the game came off the bat of Golden as she finished a perfect 3-for-3 while Goggin went 1-for-2 as she runs her current hitting streak to four games.
