Softball Falls to Western Conn. and UNE

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Lesley University softball team dropped a pair of games to tough regional opponents Western Connecticut State University and the University of New England this afternoon at the Dot Richardson Games as the National Training Center.

The Lynx dropped a 7-0 decision to the Colonials to open up the day before falling to the Nor'easters by a score of 8-4.

Lesley will wrap up their Florida schedule tomorrow morning with a doubleheader against Babson College and Plattsburgh State. First pitch is slated for 9:00a.

Game One: Lesley 0, Western Connecticut St. 7

The Colonials got on the board immediately as Nina Wojtkiewicz led off the inning with a walk before coming around on an RBI single by Erin Biskup to give WCSU an early 1-0 lead.

WCSU would add two more in the third, fifth, and sixth as they rolled to the 7-0 win.

The Lynx offense did have their chances as they had one runner in scoring position in five of the seven innings, but could not get a timely hit to manufacture any runs.

Lesley junior Selena Quezada (West Covina, Calif.) led the offense as she picked up a pair of hits. Freshman Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) finished 1-for-3 with a stolen base. Fellow freshmen Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.), Jillian Sbardella (Dartmouth, Mass.), and Kerry Flaherty (Woburn, Mass.) also picked up hits for the Lynx.

Game Two: Lesley 4, University of New England 8

For the second straight game, the Lynx fell behind early as the Nor'easters took a 3-0 lead after two innings.

Lesley quickly cut that deficit to one with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. Quezada reached with a one-out single before scoring all the way from first after a triple by sophomore Mekenzi Golden (Laguna Niguel, Calif.). Two batters later, Golden would cross the dish on a two-out RBI single by Golden to cut the lead to 3-2.

UNE would add one run in the fourth before exploding for four runs in the fifth to give the Nor'easters an 8-2 advantage.

The Lynx would make a comeback effort in the top of the seventh as Quezada scored on Golden's second triple of the game before Golden scored on a single by Sbardella. UNE would close the door from there as they retired the next two batters to secure the 8-4 win.
