Fountain Named Softball Captain

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second straight season, Lesley University catcher Allison Fountain (Cheshire, Conn.) is poised to lead the Lynx as she has been named captain by head coach Jen Benway. Fountain, who is currently enrolled in her first year of graduate school here at Lesley, has been a cornerstone of the softball program for the past three years.

"Allison has been a leader on the team since she has been here," said Benway. "Last year she thrived in serving as one of our team captains and we are excited that she is in that roll again. Our younger players really look up to her – she leads by example and her presence, confidence, and work ethic pushes everyone to work harder. She plays a huge role in our success both on and off the field."

After missing her freshman season due to injury, Fountain has put together a fantastic career from behind the plate for the Lynx. In 117 career games, the backstop has hit .356 with 27 doubles, five triples, and four home runs, while scoring 105 runs and knocking in 84.

Fountain has earned New England Collegiate Conference All-Conference honors in each of her three seasons, having received Second Team distinctions in 2012 and 2013 before receiving First Team honors last season. As a senior, Fountain experienced one of her best seasons at the dish as she finishing the season with a career-best .398 batting average.

The Lynx take off tomorrow as they travel to sunny Florida for the annual Dot Richardson spring games. Lesley's season will open with a doubleheader on Sunday against Anderson University (Ind.) and the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at the Foundation Academy in Winter Garden, Fla. First pitch against the Ravens is set for 9:00a.
