Apgar, Golden, Nisbet Sweep NECC Softball Weekly Awards

After claiming their sixth straight New England Collegiate Conference title, three Lynx swept the conference weekly awards for the week ending May 4th, 2014. Senior Sarah Apgar (Andover, N.J.) was named NECC Player of the Week while freshmen Mekenzi Golden (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and Alyson Nisbet (Clovis, Calif.) picked up Rookie of the Week and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively. NECC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations, Robb Modica, made the announcement today in the conference Weekly Report.

The top-seeded Lynx won three straight games at the 2014 NECC Softball Championship and have earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight year.

NECC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sarah Apgar, Lesley
(Sr, INF - Andover, N.J.)
Apgar was named NECC Tournament MVP following Lesley's sixth straight title. The short stop led the offense, hitting .500 (5-for-10) with three RBI, five runs scored, two doubles, and a home run. Apgar's home run in championship game against Mitchell gave Lesley the lead for good as they earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. 

NECC SOFTBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Mekenzi Golden, Lesley

Golden's bat helped lead the Lynx to claim their sixth straight NECC Championship. The freshman finished the tournament hitting .444 (4-for-9) with four RBI and four runs scored. In her first at bat, she bashed her sixth home run of the year en route to a 9-1 win over Newbury. Golden scored runs in all three games for the Lynx while finishing the week with a 1.000 slugging percentage.

NECC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Alyson Nisbet, Lesley
(Fr, INF - Clovis, Calif.)
Nisbet captured two of Lesley's three wins en route to their sixth consecutive NECC title. The freshman allowed just 13 hits and two earned runs in 12 innings pitched. In the title game against Mitchell College, Nisbet threw all seven innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out eight to clinch the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Nisbet's efforts earned her a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
