Golden, Thomas Garner NECC Weekly Awards

Lesley University freshman Mekenzi Golden (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and sophomore Jordan Thomas (Fitchburg, Mass.) have been named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. NECC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations, Robb Modica, made the announcement in the conference Weekly Report.

This marks the third week that Golden has been named the top rookie in the conference, also collecting the honor on March 31st and March 17th. This is the first time in Thomas' career in which she has been named Pitcher of the Week. The two helped the Lynx to a 3-1 record on the week, including a perfect 3-0 in NECC play.

Golden has continued her hot bat, helping the Lynx to a 3-0 weekend. In a 5-3 win over Southern Vermont, the freshman finished 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. In the second game of the day, Golden blasted her conference-leading fourth home run of the season to go with a triple and a single in a perfect 3-for-3 effort at the dish. Golden drove in two runs and scored a pair in the 8-0 victory. On Sunday, Golden drove in two more runs while scoring one in a 19-0 win over Wheelock. On the week, Golden was 7 for 15 at the plate with six RBI and seven runs scored.

NECC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Thomas hurled her first no-hitter of her career in an 8-0 win over Southern Vermont to cap a doubleheader sweep of the Mountaineers on Saturday. The sophomore fired a complete-game (five innings) while allowing just one walk and striking out three. Thomas followed up that performance with a complete-game win on Sunday over Wheelock. The lefty limited the Wildcats to just three hits while striking out seven in the 19-0 victory. On the week, Thomas posted a 0.00 ERA in 10 innings pitched with 10 strikeouts while allowing just three hits.
