Mangiaratti named New England all-star, Brixey also honored

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Lesley junior Emily Mangiaratti was named a Second Team All-Star by the New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association (NEISCA), as voted on by the organization's coaches.

Additionally, senior outfielder Gabrielle Brixey was named a NEISCA All-Star Honorable Mention.

The Lynx designated player and leadoff hitter was again one of her league's most potent offensive weapons. Mangiaratti led the New England Collegiate Conference with 37 RBI's and 46 runs scored and finished fourth with 19 stolen bases (19-19) and fifth in batting average at .432.

On Monday she was named All-NECC First Team for the second year in a row. She collected the Lynx only multi-hit game of the team's two NCAA Tournament games, going 2-for-3 on Friday in Lesley's 6-0 loss to Ithaca College.

Brixey came in right behind Mangiaratti for second in the NECC with 34 runs batted in. She tied for fourth in the NECC with 11 doubles and led the league with 26 doubles in conference play.

Like Mangiaratti, the Coalinga, CA native was an All-NECC First Teamer for the second year in a row, but unlike the Lynx designated player, Brixey's value extended to the defensive side of the diamond where the centerfielder gunned down a team-high four runners.

With her team's loss to Ithaca, the Lynx wrap up 2012 at 28-12, appearing in the NCAA Tournament for a second year in a row after winning a fouth straight NECC Championship and fifth straight title overall.
