Lynx end ECAC run with 5-1 loss to Bridgewater State

KEENE, N.H. – The Lesley University softball team ended their run in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament with a 5-1 loss to Bridgewater State College, finishing their 2010 campaign with a 26-13 record.  The Lynx recorded their third straight season with at least 25 wins and won their third conference title in-a-row.

The Bears scored four runs in the bottom of the third and added one more in the bottom of the fourth, before giving up a run to the Lynx in the top of the fifth.

Bridgewater State Michaela Ferreira (FALL RIVER, Mass./Durfee) went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI single through the right side of the infield in the third inning.  Penny King (HANOVER, Mass./Hanover) knocked an double to center, Tracey Sanko (WINDSOR, Conn./Windsor) singled to left, and Heather McPherson (MANSFIELD, Mass./Mansfield) walked to all register RBI in the same inning.

In the top of the fifth, Lesley sophomore Jenna Fralick (WOBURN, Mass./Woburn) led off the inning with a  single through the left side.  Emily Mangiaratti (AMHERST, Mass./Amherst Regional) followed with another single to left field and then both runners advanced to second and third base with a sacrifice bunt by Jessica Guevara (NANTUCKET, Mass./Nantucket).  The next batter, senior Jodi Fralick (WOBURN, Mass./Woburn) drove in the runner on third with a sacrifice fly to right.

On the mound for the Lynx, Cassandra Knox (SEA CLIFF, N.Y./North Shore) gave up five runs, two earned, on nine hits and two walks while striking out four batters.  Knox finished the season with a 23-10 record, setting the Lesley softball record for pitching wins in a single season eclipsing former Lynx hurler Alicia Burnett's mark of 17 in 2008 and 2009.

Sanko pitched a complete game for the Bears, going 7.0 innings with four strikeouts while giving up just one earned run on four hits and three walks.
