Lynx sweep Hawks in NECC doubleheader

LEICESTER, Mass. – The Lesley University softball team played their first games on New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play and swept Becker College 3-1 and 13-1.  The Lynx improved to 7-4 on the season and are currently on a four-game win streak. 

Game One

Tied 1-1 in the top of the eight inning, Jessica Guevara (NANTUCKET, Mass./Nantucket) hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the go-ahead run in Jenna Fralick (WOBURN, Mass./Woburn).  Fralick was placed on second base at the start of the inning per international tie-breaker rules then a sacrifice bunt by Emily Mangiaratti  (AMHERST, Mass./Amherst Regional) moved the runner along to third base. 

Junior Alyson Durben (STOW, Mass./Nashoba Regional) followed two batters later with an RBI double to left field to drive in Jodi Fralick (WOBURN, Mass./Woburn).

On the mound for the Lynx, Cassandra Knox (SEA CLIFF, N.Y./North Shore) pitched a complete game gem with eight innings pitched and 12 strikeouts.  The sophomore gave up just two hits and one run for her fourth victory of the season.

Game Two

In game two, the Lesley offense awoke with 13 runs on 19 hits to complete the two-game sweep of the Hawks.  Knox pitched another solid game going seven innings with three strikeouts, improving her record to 5-4.

Lesley's three-four-five hitters, Jodi Fralick, Durben, and Molly Sarson (SANFORD, Maine/Sanford) combined to go 11-for-15 with seven runs scored and nine RBI in the win.  Durben was a perfect 5-for-5 with a  double and triple in the game.  Fralick had a double and added two stolen bases.

Mangiaratti and Guevara each had two hits with two runs scored and a RBI for the Lynx.

Lesley will be back in action on Tuesday, April 6 for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 pm at Babson College.
