Lesley sweeps Becker on Senior Day

Lesley sweeps Becker on Senior Day

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Lesley University softball team improved their New England Collegiate Conference record to 9-1 after sweeping Becker College on Senior Day.  The Lynx are now 17-10 overall while the Hawks dropped to 2-18 (1-10 NECC) on the season.

Game One

History was made in first game of the double header as senior pitcher Alicia Burnett (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) set the Lesley single game strikeout record with 18 punch outs in Lesley 4-0 victory over Becker.  Burnett gave up just two hits in the game as she improved to 10-6 on the season.

The Lynx got on the board in the bottom half of the second inning on an RBI single from Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, N.Y.) and and a sacrifice fly from Alyson Durben (Stow, Mass.).

An inning later, Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) doubled down the left field line to drive home Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.) who hit a bunt single to get on then stole both second and third base.  Fralick would later score on a Sarah Wilson double to left centerfield.

Becker looked to get on the board in the top of the seventh inning after Amanda Fogaren (Tewksbury, Mass.) roped a line drive double over the center fielder's head, but Burnett struck out the next batter to seal the victory for the Lynx.

Hawks pitcher Kristin Cammuso (Rutland, Mass.) held Lesley to four runs on nine hits while walking four batters and striking out three.

Game Two

The Lesley offense exploded in game two early and often as the Lynx won 14-3 in five innings.

Four Lynx batters had multiple RBIs with Jenna Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) leading the way with three runs batted in.  Fralick hit a gapper to left center in her first at bat that drove home two runners and singled to the shortstop in the third inning to bring in another.

Jodi Fralick, Gianna Spaziante, and Sarah Wilson each had two RBIs a piece in the mercy rule victory.

Becker gave Lesley pitcher Cassandra Knox (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) a hard time throughout the game as the Hawks loaded the bases in two separate innings.  In the third inning with the bases loaded, Knox was able to avoid any runners crossing the plate as Felicia Laufer (Salem, Conn.) hit a groundball to the third baseman Wilson who went catcher to first base for the double play to end the inning.

Becker had more success in the fourth inning with the bases loaded.  Leann Norrman's (Auburn, Mass.) walk and Lindsay Hanna's (Portland, Me.) infield single both brought in runs.  A passed ball later in the inning brought home Becker's final run of the game.

The Lynx offense was just too much as the team hit 0.577, tallied 11 RBIs, and stolen four bases as a team.

Lesley will travel to Mitchell College on April 21 for a conference double header starting at 3:30 pm while Becker hosts the Mariners on April 19.
