BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Lesley University softball team competed in a round robin tournament with non-conference opponents Emerson College and Babson College and lost both games. The Lynx dropped to 9-8 (6-0 NECC) on the season and will be back in action this Tuesday against Wheelock College for their first home games of the season.
Game One vs. Emerson College
Lesley's first game against Emerson belonged to Lions pitcher Kelsey Tuthill (Middlefield, Conn.) who blanked the Lynx through strong innings as the first-year player won 6-0. Tuthill struck out nine Lynx batters while giving up just one hit as she improved to 10-1 on the season.
The lone Lesley hit went to Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, N.Y.) who singled in the fourth inning.
Brittany Martin (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Bridget Farago (Oneonta, N.Y.) each had three hits in the game for Emerson. Farago led her team with two runs batted in.
Game Two vs. Babson College
In game two against Babson, the Lynx held a 3-1 advantage after scoring three runs in the top of fourth inning. Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) and Sarah Wilson (Lowell, Mass.) both singled to lead off the inning and after an error by the third baseman on a batted ball from Alyson Durben (Stow, Mass.), Fralick rounded third to tie up the game. A passed ball brought home Wilson and Durben advanced around to third base. Georgia Saltzman (Lynn, Mass.) grounded out to the pitcher and Durben scored to give Lesley the two-run advantage.
The score remained the same until sixth inning when Kayla Davis (Gardner, Mass.) crushed a three-run home run off Lesley's Cassandra Knox (Sea Cliff. N.Y.) to give Babson the 4-3 lead. It was Knox's only major mistake as the freshman was solid through six innings of work.
Babson would go on to win the game 4-3 and improve to 13-11 on the season.
