Lynx receive All-Conference awards

WHITINGHAM, Vt. - The North Atlantic Conference released their softball All-Conference Teams selections and several Lesley University players were recognized for their efforts this season.

Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) won the conference top honors with the NAC Player of the Year award in a season in which the catcher batted .565 against conference opponents.  Fralick led the conference in hits (39), runs batted in (32), total bases (52), and batting average.  The sophomore's leadership on the field and dominance at the plate helped lead the Lynx to a 17-3 record in conference play.  The award comes one year after Fralick had won NAC Rookie of the Year honors in 2007.

Freshman outfielder Alyson Durben (Stow, Mass.) was recognized as the conference's top rookie as she was given the NAC Rookie of the Year award.  Durben was among the league leaders in hits (31), runs scored (22), total bases (51), runs batted in (21), and slugging percentage (.762) while hitting .463 at the plate.  The freshman was solid in the outfield for the Lynx as she provided good range and a strong arm.  Durben also racked up three Rookie of the Week awards during the season en route to winning her award.

Junior transfer pitcher Alicia Burnett (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) and junior shortstop Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.) both earned First Team All-Conference honors from the NAC.  Burnett, in her first season with the Lynx, was dominant against conference opponents.  She tallied a 10-2 record with a 1.72 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 89.0 IP.  Burnett gave up just 17 earned runs and walked only eight batters while recording six shutouts.

Cabral-Pini occupied the leadoff spot for Lesley and was extremely effective all season long.  She sported a .587 on-base percentage, batting .415, and drew 18 walks against the conference.  Cabral-Pini scored 33 runs and stolen eight bases in nine attempts.  The shortstop was solid in the field as well as she had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.  This was the first time in three years Cabral-Pini had been recognized by the NAC.

Centerfielder Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, N.Y.) earned Second Team All-Conference after batting .364 with 16 runs, 11 runs batted in, and nine stolen bases.  Spaziante was a consistent hitter at the plate and a great outfielder for the Lynx.  The junior had previously won First Team All-Conference in 2006 in her rookie season.

After winning their quarterfinal game against Bay Path College, the Lynx now travel to Husson College, the host of the NAC Championships.  Lesley will play their first game on Friday, May 2 at 12 p.m. against Thomas College.  You can track the progress of this game on the North Atlantic Conference website which will be updated after every inning.
