Lynx leave Fort Myers with a win and a loss

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Lesley University softball team finished off their spring training trip by splitting the day's games between Skidmore College and Finlandia Univesrity.  In the first game of the day against Skidmore, the Lynx were victorious 12-2 while in the second game, Finlandia edged Lesley 3-2 in a tough pitchers duel. 

Game One vs. Skidmore College

Sarah Wilson (Lowell, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with five runs batted in and a run scored a she led the Lynx offense to an impressive victory over Skidmore College.  Wilson's single in the fourth inning scored two runners and gave Lesley a 6-2 lead.

The Lynx exploded in the sixth inning with six runs on five hits and error by Skidmore.  In the frame, big hits by Georgia Saltzman (Lynn, Mass.) and Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, N.Y.) led the offensive surge.  For both players, it was their only hits but Spaziante's single drove in two of the six runs in the inning. 

Amy Breen (Holbrook, Mass.) had a solid outing for Lesley as she pitched a complete game.  She finished the game giving up two earned runs on seven hits and struck out a season-high six Skidmore batters.

Game Two vs. Finlandia University

It was a pitching duel between Finlandia and Lesley, as there were only seven hits in the entire game for both teams.  Christina Anzilotti (Pelham, N.Y.) gave up two earned runs and struck out three batters in her three innings on the mound while Alicia Burnett (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) pitched the rest of the way for the Lynx giving up two hits and striking out four. 

Lesley scored in the third inning as Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.) scored on an Alyson Durben (Stow, Mass.) double to left-center.  Two innings later, after Spaziante singled and advanced the third base, the junior would cross home plate on a passed ball for the team's second run of the game. 

The Lynx were unable to threaten to tie up the game and lost their final game of spring training.  The team will now be off until April 3 when the Lynx will host Massachusetts Maritime Academy in a double-header starting at 3 p.m.
