NEWTON, MA – Carried by the right arm of Maureen Mikos
(Fairfield, CT) Lesley University upset the #1 seed in the East,
Lasell College, to advance to the NAC Championships, to be held at
Elms College. Mikos threw a complete game seven hitter helping to
lead her team to a 5-1 victory.
Lesley never trailed Lasell as they jumped out to an early 2-0 lead
in the first inning. Katie Bennett (Bartlett, NH) help to put the
pressure on Lasell by coming through with a huge two out, two RBI
single in the third that gave Lesley a 4-0 lead.
From there it was all Mikos who handled everything that Lasell
threw at her. Mikos finished with a season high 10 strikeouts.
Lasell managed to score in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead
to 4-1. However, Lesley then countered in the seventh with another
insurance run as they stretched the lead to 5-1.
In the bottom of the seventh Lasell was able to load the bases with
two outs. With the game and the right to advance to the NAC
Championships on the line Mikos managed to get the Lasell batter to
fly out to shortstop, Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, MA) to end the
game.
Lesley will now travel to Chicopee, MA where the NAC Softball
Championship will be held. The Lady Lynx will take up Elms College
in the semifinals. For more information on the Championships or the
