Lesley University vs. Maine Maritime Academy

CAMBRIDGE, MA – The Lady Lynx got off to a fast start against Maine Maritime and cruised from there to a 6-3 win.

Lesley’s young guns helped lead the way once again for the Lynx. Freshman Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, MA) drove in a game high four RBI’s as she went 2-3 from the plate. Fellow freshman Sarah Wilson (Lowell, MA) drove in the other RBI for the Lynx. Sophomore Courtnie Leakeas (Lowell, MA) had a team high three runs scored.

Amy Breen (Holbrook, MA) walked away with the win for the Lynx. Breen pitched four innings while giving up one earned run off of three hits and walked three. Maureen Mikos (Fairfield, CT) came in relief for Breen and picked up the save for the Lynx. Mikos pitched three innings while having zero earned runs, giving up two hits and striking out four.

The Lynx struck first against the Mariner’s as they got two runs in the first. When Maritime answered back by getting one run in the top of the second, the Lynx made another statement. Lesley scored three runs in the bottom of the second which put them up 5-1. Although Maritime rallied with two runs late the game always appeared to be in hand for the Lynx.

The Lady Lynx successfully completely the sweep of Maine Maritime with a 13-3 win in the finale of the double-header.

Once again Gianna Spaziante (Hawthorne, MA) led the offense for the Lynx. Spaziante went 4-4, with six RBI’s, four runs scored, a triple and a homerun. Katie Bennett (Bartlett, NH) stepped up for the Lynx as well as she went 2-2 with four RBI’s, two walks and two runs scored. Lisa Pina (Somerville, MA) was 2-3 with a RBI and a run scored.

Christina Anzilotti (Pelham, NY) picked up the win for the Lynx. Anzilotti pitched three innings, giving up one earned run on six hits, while striking out one. Maureen Mikos (Fairfield, CT) picked up her second save of the day for the Lynx. Mikos pitched two innings, giving up zero earned runs on one hit while striking out one.

Maritime tied the game up in the third at three. The Lynx responded in the bottom of the third with two runs to go up 5-3 after three. Lesley then got four runs in the bottom of the fourth and Spaziante hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth, ending the game, and giving the Lynx the sweep.
