Men's Cross Country Finishes Fifth at NECC Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Lesley University men's cross country team competed and placed fifth at the annual New England Collegiate Conference Championships Saturday afternoon at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass.

Southern Vermont College claimed their third straight NECC title as they placed four runners in the top five to finish atop the standings with 21 points. Regis College took second place with 44 points while Wheelock College and Mitchell College tied for third with 96 points apiece. The Lynx totaled 121 points while Newbury College rounded out the field with 133 total points.

Senior Tyler Burns (Newton, Pa.) paced the Lesley runners with a 16th place overall finish with a persona-best time of 31:13. Sophomore Mike Fleming (Southwick, Mass.) followed Burns with a personal-best of his own, coming in 22nd overall as he crossed at 32:26.

Freshmen Matthew Mori (Natick, Mass.) and Matt Arsenault (York, Maine) turned in times of 33:31 and 36:36, respectively, while fellow first year Ethan Merians (Larchmont, N.Y.) rounded out Lesley's field with a time of 43:07.

The Lynx will return to Stanley Park next Saturday and compete in the NCAA Division III New England Regionals.
