Men's Cross Country Finishes 5th at NECC's; Barber Earns 1st Team Honors

WESTFIELD, Mass. — The Lesley University men's cross country team finished fifth overall in the New England Collegiate Conference Championship this afternoon at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass.

Senior Ian Barber (Westhampton, Mass.) led the Lynx with a third place overall finish with a time of 27:48. Barber earned NECC First Team honors for the third straight year and was also named to the inaugural NECC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Freshman Gaelon Kolczynski (Yarmouth, Maine) crushed his personal-best time by 1:43 as he followed Barber with a time of 31:59. This marks the third straight race that Kolczynski has beaten his previous personal-record.

Classmate Leo Saporta (Newton, Mass.) crossed the 8k finish at 33:10 while sophomore Robbie Fisher (Boston, Mass.) came in at 34:56. Senior Kolin Perry (Reno, Nev.) completed Lesley's efforts on the day with a time of 37:08.

Southern Vermont College claimed the Championship for the second straight season. SVC sophomore Marc Brandmeyer (Bennington, Vt.) crossed first overall once again to grab his second straight NECC Runner of the Year honor, coming through with a new NECC Championship record time of 26:19. a mark good enough to be the new NECC Championship record.

The Mountaineers placed three runners in the top 10 to win the crown with 27 team points, being followed by a Regis College squad that came in second overall with 42 after four members of the Pride finished in the top 10. Elms College rounded out the top three team placements with 91 points.
