Men's Volleyball Falls to Blazers in Three Sets

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University men's volleyball team fell to Elms College, 3-0, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action, Tuesday evening. Lynx senior outside hitter Jason Hulteen (Galena, Ohio) led the team notching five kills while tallying three defensive digs.

Elms posted a staggering .566 attack percentage as a team, registering 32 kills on 53 attempts with two miscues. First year outside hitter David Hernandez (Springfield, Mass.) and senior outside hitter Aaron Fogle (Queens Village, N.Y.) each recorded six kills apiece while junior setter Kahlil Peters (Hartford, Conn.) paced the offense with 17 assists.

The Blazers came out of the gate red-hot, taking the first set 25-7. Junior outside hitter Gabriel Reis Levy (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) was nearly perfect from the floor recording five kills on seven attempts. Sophomore setter John Dunphy (Farmington, Conn.) paced off the offense with eight set assists.

However, the Lynx were not going away quietly. Senior middle hitter Jacob DiDomenico (North Providence, R.I.) recorded a three kills while sophomore John Gersbeck (Westerly, R.I.) tallied four assists. But it was not enough to surpass the Blazers. Hernandez and teammate junior outside hitter Blake Fry (Natick, Mass.) combined to notch six kills to help Elms take the two-match advantage with a 25-11 victory in the second set.

Elms did not look back as they were flawless from the floor in the third set. Tallying 13 kills on 20 attempts with zero errors, the Blazers were a perfect seven-for-seven on side-outs to take game three, 25-6. Hernandez was three-of-four from the floor while senior middle hitter Dervin Dimanche (Queens, N.Y.) was a perfect three-for-three in the third set to lead the Blazers to their 15th victory.

Elms improves to 15-9 and 7-4 in the conference while Lesley drops to 1-15 and 0-6 in NECC action. The Lynx return to the hard-court Thursday evening when they travel to Eastern Nazarene College for a 7:00 p.m. tilt while the Blazers will be back in action on Saturday April 8th at 1:00 p.m. against Newbury College in Chicopee.
