BROOKLINE, Mass. - The Lesley University men's volleyball team fell to Newbury College, 3-0, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action, Wednesday evening. The Lynx drop to 0-11 on the season and 0-3 in conference play while the Nighthawks improve to 2-5 and move to 1-1 in the NECC. 

Senior Jason Hulteen (Galena, Ohio) had a strong night for the Lynx, recording 12 kills and nine digs. Junior Karuna Chiemruom (Cranston, R.I.) finished with 13 assists, while Patrick Corcoran (West Hartford, Conn.) finished with eight digs and a game-high two block assists.

Nighthawks junior outside hitter Joshua Thorne (Oxford, Conn.) posted a staggering .706 attack percentage, tallying a game-high 13 kills while notching five service aces.  Senior Nile Fox (Hampton, Va.) joined Throne in double-digit kills, recording a career-high 12, while hitting .385. Freshman Oscar Chavez (Independence, Ore.) finished with a career-high 28 assists. Freshman Matt Sepe (Cranston, R.I.) and sophomore Cesar Cruz (Brockton, Mass.) finished with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

The opening set was the best of the season for the Nighthawks, who hit .500 to start the match. Newbury totaled 11 kills in the opening set; a 25-8 win. Thorne had six kills in the opening set.

The second set was a different story for the Lynx, who led by five for much of the first half of the set. The Nighthawks gathered some momentum on a series of three aces to take an 18-17 lead, before three straight points for the Lynx gave them the 20-18 edge. The Nighthawks would settle down, winning seven of the next eight point, due in part to a series of kills and errors, giving them a second set win, 25-21.

The Nighthawks controlled much of the third, going on scoring runs of 6-1 and 4-0 to lead by six for much of the third set. It was the Lynx who fought back on this occasion, pulling to within three at 20-17. Again, the Nighthawks settled down and a final ace from Chavez would give Newbury a 25-19 third set win.

 The Lynx look for their first win of the season next Monday against Regis (Mass.) at 7:00 p.m. The Nighthawks return to action on Saturday in a tri-match with Southern Vermont College and Mount Ida College.
