Men's Volleyball Falls to Gulls in NECC Action

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University men's volleyball team fell to Endicott College, 3-0, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action, Wednesday evening. Reigning NECC Player of the Week first year outside hitter Bryn Lipton (Rockford, Ill.) posted a .545 attack percentage tallying eight kills on 11 attempts with just two miscues.

Endicott climbs to 7-8 on the season and 2-0 in conference play while Lesley drops to 0-8 and 0-2 in NECC action.

Hitting .522 as a team, the Gulls jumped out to the quick 1-0 match advantage taking the first set by a score of 25-5. Lipton dominated the net offensively, recording all eight of his kills in game one while sophomore setter Devin Racey (Voorheesville, N.Y.) paced the offense with 13 assists to go along with a set-high three service aces.

The Gulls continued to show why they were the pre-season favorites, recording an outstanding .476 attack percentage tallying 12 kills on 21 attempts in game two take the two-set lead. Junior outside hitter Troy Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) was nearly perfect from floor tallying five kills on six attempts while first year opposite hitter Conner Holland (Derry, N.H.) was right behind him with three kills on four attempts.

Lynx senior outside hitter Jason Hulteen (Galena, Ohio) hit .429 in the second set to lead Lesley's offense, tallying three kills on seven attempts to go along with a solo block.

In the third and final set of the match senior outside hitter Tyler Willgoos (Newington, Conn.) sparked 1 10-0 run, which included four straight services ace, to seal the match with a 25-7 score. Holland, sophomore Matt Bozek (Exeter, N.H.) and sophomore middle blocker Seth Braquet (Destrehan, La.) each were a perfect three-for-three from the floor in the third set.

Hulteen remained consistent, tallying two kills in the third set while sophomore outside hitter Steven Newman (Natick, Mass.) chipped in offensively. Newman was flawless on the floor in the third set, tallying two kills on three attempts while recording two defensive digs.

Holland finished the match posting a staggering .857 attack percentage as he was nearly perfect from the floor, tallying six kills on seven attempts. Senior middle blocker Daniel Toth (Glenwood, N.J.) and Willgoos followed up with five kills each.

Hullteen led the way for the Lynx notching a team-high five kills while Newman followed up with two kills and a team-high four digs. Junior outside hitter Karuna Chiemruom (Cranston, R.I.) paced the offense with seven assists.

Lesley returns to the hard-court Friday, February 19th when they host non-conference John Jay College at 8:00 p.m. Endicott will be off for 10 days before they continue conference play on Saturday February 25th when they travel to Chicopee, Mass. to face Elms College at 1:00 p.m.
