Men's Volleyball Drops Two To MIT, Emerson

BOSTON, Mass. – The Lesley University men's volleyball dropped two non-conference matches against Emerson College, 3-0, and MIT, 3-0, on the road, Saturday afternoon. Senior outside hitter Jason Hulteen (Galena, Ohio) posted two kills with seven digs for the Lynx against the Lions and Engineers.

 

Match 1: Emerson 3, Lesley 0

Emerson opened the day with a three set victory over the Lynx, 25-9, 25-11, 25-9. Lions' sophomore right side hitter Win Kittvatcharapong (Bangkok, Thailand) led the way notching eight kills on 15 attempts while first year outside hitter Diego Garcia (Honolulu, Hawaii) followed up with seven kills. Junior outside hitter Nick Rusk (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) guided the Lion offense with 30 kills.

Lesley junior outside hitter Karuna Chiemruom (Cranston, R.I.) paced the Lynx offense with three assists while Hulteen lead with two kills. In addition, Chiemruom partnered with senior middle hitter Jacob DiDomenico (North Providence, R.I.) to register the Lynx lone blocks.

 

Match 2: MIT 3, Lesley 0

The Lynx second match of the day came against a tough, 7-3, MIT squad that saw them receiving two votes in the latest, AVCA, coaches' poll. However, the Engineers came out on top with a decisive three-set win.

Chiemruom once again guided the Lynx offense with three assists – two to DiDomenico, who led the Lynx with two kills against the Engineers. Sophomore outside hitter Shawn Newman (Natick, Mass.) followed up with a kill of his own while Hulteen posted five defensive digs in the loss.

MIT junior outside hitter Tom Leech (Meadville, Pa.) registered a staggering .692 attack percentage, tallying 10 kills on 13 attempts with just one error to lead the Engineers to their ninth victory. Classmate, middle hitter Andrew Hall (Lynnfield, Mass.) was right behind him and was nearly perfect from the floor, notching eight kills on nine attempts.

The Lynx drop to 0-4 on the season while the Engineers improve to 9-3 and the Lions move to 3-1 on the season. Lesley returns to the hard-court on Monday February 6th when they host Dean College at 8:00 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass.
