Men's Volleyball Falls to Eastern Nazarene in Three Sets

QUINCY, Mass. – The Lesley University men's volleyball team fell to Eastern Nazarene College in three sets, 3-0, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action, Tuesday evening. Senior outside hitter Jason Hulteen (Galena, Ohio) led the way with a team-high five kills.

Eastern Nazarene came out of the gate strong, hitting .500 as a team tallying 11 kills on 18 attempts with just two errors, to claim the first set, 25-11. The Lions kept their foot on the accelerator with a 25-12 victory in game two to take the two-set advantage.

However, the Lynx were not going to back down as they began the third set in a tight battle with the Lions. But Eastern Nazarene began to pull away utilizing a 4-0 stretch run following a kills by the Lions' Derek Fowler (Williamstown, N.J.) midway through the game and they never looked back.

Sophomore middle hitter John Gersbeck (Westerly, R.I.) followed up Hulteen notching two kills for the Lynx. Junior outside hitter Karuna Chiemruom (Cranston, R.I.) paced the offense with seven assists to go along with three service aces.

Eastern Nazarene's Kenny Sorenson (Quincy, Mass.) finished with a match-high 13 kills while tallying eight digs and five aces. Matthew Tyree (Lansdale, Pa.) posted 27 assists, six digs, four service aces, and four kills on the night. Derek Fowler (Williamstown, N.J.) notched four kills and a pair of solo blocks while Andrew Shaw (Weymouth, Mass.) chipped in with eight digs, three aces, and three kills.

Lesley drops to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in the conference while Eastern Nazarene improves to 2-1 and 2-1 in NECC action. The Lynx will be back in action on Thursday February 2nd when they travel to Weston, Mass. to face conference foe Regis College at 7:00 p.m. The Lions return to the hard-court this weekend when they host Dean College on February 4th.
