Men's Volleyball Suffers Pair of Setbacks at JWU Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Lesley University men's volleyball team wrapped up the second and final day of the Johnson & Wales Invitational Saturday afternoon with a pair of setbacks to Emmanuel College and Bard College.

The Lynx will begin a ten-day layoff and return to New England Collegiate Conference play on Tuesday, March 22nd at Endicott College at 7:00p.

Match One: Lesley 0, Emmanuel 3 (25-10, 25-20, 25-13)

Lesley junior Tyler Burns (Newton, Pa.) set a season-high with ten kills to pace the Lynx attack to go with five digs. Classmate Jacob DiDomenico (North Providence, R.I.) added five kills and senior Chris Barletta (Valrico, Fla.) finished with three. DiDomenico and freshman Steven Newman (Natick, Mass.) each finished with one block assist while junior Jason Hulteen (Galena, Ohio) added one solo block in the match. Freshman Karuna Chiemruom (Cranston, R.I.) raised the bar on his career-high in assists for the second straight day, dishing out 17. Senior C. Jay Sutton (Billerica, Mass.) led Lesley's defensive effort with eight digs.

Emmanuel senior Barrett Wingard (York, Pa.) slammed down a match-high 12 kills to go along with six service aces to lead the charge for the Saints. Fellow senior Drew Jordan (Braintree, Mass.) added six kills on eight attack attempts to compile a .625 hitting percentage while freshman Andres Saladrigas (Miami, Fla.) dished out 20 assists. Senior Julian Hess (Santa Monica, Calif.) finished with five kills.

Match Two: Lesley 0, Bard 3 (25-7, 25-11, 25-16)

Once again it was Burns that powered the Lesley offense as he finished with seven kills while digging out seven balls on the defensive side of the net. Barletta added six kills and five digs and DiDomenico slammed home four kills. Chiemruom matched his career-mark from the first match of the day with 17 assists while Sutton finished with eight digs. Newman set a career-best with five digs.

Bard senior Troy Robertson (New Orleans, La.) hammered nine of his ten swing attempts for nine kills while freshman Gabe Adams-Keane (East Arlington, Mass.) finished a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor for the Raptors. Junior Alex Adams (Fire Island, N.Y.) added eight kills while senior Kai Bernier-Chen (Kamuela, Hawaii) and junior Mahir Sheikh (Bronx, N.Y.) split setting duties with 13 assists apiece.
