Strong Hitting Leads Endicott Past Men's Volleyball

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Endicott College swept past the Lesley University men's volleyball team 3-0 tonight in New England Collegiate Conference play at the Nicholas Athletics Center. Gulls junior Ryan Sutherland (Fairport, N.Y.) registered 11 kills to power the offense as the guests used set scores of 25-6, 25-9, and 25-18 to snap a two-game losing skid and improve to 9-8 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in NECC play. The loss drops the Lynx to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Endicott was hot all night as they swung a collective .417 with 42 kills against just 12 attacking errors. Senior Dan Seaver (Milford, Mass.) added six kills while junior Daniel Toth (Glenwood, N.J.) and Seth Braquet (Destrehan, La.) each finished with five for the guests. Senior Cameron Little (San Diego, Calif.) and freshman Jack Vaccaro (South Kingstown, R.I.) each dished out 11 assists while fellow rookie Devin Racey (Voorheesville, N.Y.) led the Gulls with 12 helpers. Senior Chandler Tayek (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.) anchored the defense with a team-best seven digs.

Lesley junior Tyler Burns (Newton, Pa.) paced the Lynx with a team-high eight kills on offense to go with three digs on the defensive side of the net. Classmate Jacob DiDomenico (N. Providence, R.I.) added three kills while freshman Karuna Chiemruom (Cranston, R.I.) set up the attack with a career-high 13 assists.

The Gulls did not trail all night and swung .579 in the opening set to spring out to a 1-0 match lead with a 25-6 first set victory. Toth set the tone for the visitors with five kills while sophomore Troy Riorden (Fairport, N.Y.) and senior John Osborne (Freehold, N.J.) each knocked down three in the set.

The momentum followed the Gulls into set two as they continued their hot hitting, compiling a collective .476 clip from the floor on their way to a 25-9 set win to stake a 2-0 match advantage. Sutherland slammed home four of his 11 kills in the set.

Endicott would jump out to a 6-2 edge to open the third before Lesley clawed back to within two, 10-8, following a 6-4 spurt sparked by a kill from senior C. Jay Sutton (Billerica, Mass.). The Gulls would respond with a 6-0 run fueled by a pair of Sutherland kills as they completed the 3-0 sweep with a 25-18 third set triumph.

The Lynx will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Nashua, N.H. for a tri-match with Daniel Webster College and Mount Ida College beginning at 11:00a. The Gulls are off until next Tuesday, March 1st when they kick off a four-game homestand against Elms College at 7:00p.
