Balanced Attack Carries Mountaineers Over Men's Volleyball

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University men's volleyball fell in straight sets to Southern Vermont College this afternoon, as the Mountaineers rolled to a 3-0 victory in New England Collegiate Conference action at the Nicholas Athletic Center. The Mountaineers were in control from the start as they used set scores of 25-14, 25-15, 25-18 to register their second straight conference win.

SVC senior Keven Walley (Pico Rivera, Calif.) led the balanced offensive attack for the Mountaineers as he connected for a match-high 11 kills while classmate Scott Fitzgerald (Queensbury, N.Y.) added nine kills and five digs. Fellow senior Joey Dighton (Riverside, Calif.) knocked down eight kills while connecting on 8-of-11 of his swings for a .545 hitting percentage. Senior setter Herson Canta (Lagunitas, Calif.) led all players with 31 assists. The Mountaineers held a 38-19 advantage in kills while swinging a strong .333 from the floor.

Lesley sophomore Tyler Burns (Newtown, Pa.) powered the Lynx with seven kills to go with his four digs while junior Jess Cherry (Lancaster, Pa.) registered five kills, including a team-best two aces. Classmate Chris Barletta (Valrico, Fla.) knocked down four kills while sophomore Mitchel Ulacco (Winchester, Mass.) set the offense with 15 assists.

SVC broke out of the gate with a 9-3 lead to open the first set and never looked back as they only trailed once throughout the match. Six different players connected for kills in the opening set led by three from Dighton.

Walley and Dighton powered the SVC offense in the second set as they combined for nine kills as the Mountaineers ran away to a 25-15 set win to take a 2-0 match. The visitors would continue to cruise as they jumped out to a 16-7 advantage in the third before taking the set 25-18, and the match 3-0.

The Lynx will look to get back in the win column as they return to NECC action on Monday when they travel to Elms College at 7:00p. The Mountaineers get back into conference play on Thursday as they travel to Nashua, N.H. for a tilt with Daniel Webster College. First serve for that match is set for 7:00p.
