Daniel Webster Cruises Past Men's Volleyball in Season Finale

NASHUA, N.H. – Sophomore Darien Mason (Farmington, Conn.) racked up career-highs of 10 kills, six service aces and five digs and also hit for a career-best .571 guiding host Daniel Webster past Lesley University, 3-0 Wednesday at Mario Vagge Gymnasium in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's volleyball action.

Mason posted just two errors in 14 attempts and combined for 17.5 points while Ryan Howdeshell (Fairbanks, Alaska) and Joe Walz (East Longmeadow, Mass.) added nine kills apiece as DWC prevailed with set scores of 25-12, 25-17 and 25-9. Howdeshell would pick up four kills while Walz led all Eagles with seven digs.

Jose Vargas (Lawrence, Mass.) chipped in with five kills and Kyle Lovering (Manchester, N.H.) added three. Ariel Frias (Lawrence, Mass.) handed out 32 assists. 

Lynx senior Melvin Morales (Chelsea, Mass.) led the Lynx (0-19, 0-12 NECC), playing in their season finale, with six kills while freshman Tyler Burns (Newtown, Penn.) added three. First year setter Mitchel Ulacco (Winchester, Mass.) dished out nine assists and pulled in seven digs.

DWC hit .342 on the night with 37 kills to 10 for Lesley. The Eagles also combined for 12 service aces and trailed only three times over the course of the night. 

Mason, Howdeshell and Walz all knocked down four kills each in the opening set as DWC hit .393 and Mason and Walz added four more apiece in the second. Howdeshell and Vargas led the hosts with three per player in the third as the Eagles hit .500.

Morales enjoyed his best set during the second for the Lynx, racking up four kills on seven attempts.
