Lynx earn second victory of the season over SVC

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Lesley University and Southern Vermont College battled back-and-forth through four sets on Saturday afternoon, but the Lynx triumphed over the Mountaineers 3-1 (30-13, 28-30, 37-35, 30-14).

With the victory, Lesley improved to 2-14 (2-9 NECC, 2-9 NECVA) while Southern Vermont dropped to 0-11 (0-5 NECC, 0-9 NECVA).

For the first time this season, the Lynx had two players with double-digit kills as newcomer Malcolm Andrews (Medford, Mass.) led all players with 15 kills on 28 attacks.  Andrews was efficient at the net, committing only five errors.  On defense, Andrews impressed with three solo blocks.

Also recording multiple kills was Zachary Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, Mass.) who had one his best matches of the season with 10 kills, six digs, and four aces.

The Mountaineers were paced by Joseph Karnik (Castleton, N.Y.) and Cameron Herrington (Cambridge, N.Y.) who tallied 11 and nine kills, respectively.  Herrington and teammate Ryan Heron (Plantation, Fla.) tied for a team-high nine digs.

Lesley had complete control of the first set, winning with ease at 30-13 but in the second set the Mountaineers seemed determined to get back in the match.  Southern Vermont won the second set down the wire after attacking errors from Almeida-Beers and Tyler Reeves (Coventry, Conn.).

In a tight third set that would give one team an advantage in the match, both schools fought back-and-forth past 30 points with the Lynx eventually winning 37-35.  Lesley's Mike Jack (Buenos Aires, Argentina) finished the set with a kill, one of his seven on the match.  Jack also tallied a match-high 14 kills.

With the 2-1 set advantage, the Lynx cruised to a fourth set victory to put away the Mountaineers.

Lesley's sophomore setter Stephen Siragusa (Valley Stream, N.Y.) compiled 38 assists, eight service aces, and six digs in an overall solid effort.  Southern Vermont's setter Ricky Harrington (North Adams, Mass.) finished the match with 26 set assists of his own.

The Lynx will next host Wentworth Institute of Technology on March 3 at 8:00 pm.  Lesley previously lost to Wentworth 3-0 on February 21.  Southern Vermont will travel to Wentworth on Sunday, March 1 for a 1:00 pm match.
