BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Lesley University men's volleyball team competed in a tri-match at Southern Vermont College that included Newbury College on Saturday afternoon. The Lynx were able to split with their opponents, earning their first season victory over Southern Vermont.
Match One vs. Newbury
Nationally ranked Newbury defeated Lesley in straight sets 3-0 (30-14, 30-15, 30-14) in the first match of the tri-match.
Zachary Almeida-Beers (Rehoboth, Mass.) tallied four kills, five digs, and a block in the loss. Teammates Nick Assad (Andover, Mass.) and Mike Jack (Buenos Aires, Argentina) each had three kills in the match.
Stephen Siragusa (Valley Stream, N.Y.) finished with nine set assists.
Match Two vs. Southern Vermont
In the second match of the day against Southern Vermont, Lesley earned their first victory of the 2009 season. The Lynx won 3-0 (30-22, 30-24, 30-12) behind impressive performances once again from Almeida-Beers, Assad, and Jack.
Almeida-Beers led the Lynx once again with seven kills and Jack was extremely efficient as the junior recorded six kills without an error. Jack also tallied double-digit digs with 10.
Assad contributed with five kills and seven digs and Siragusa once again led the team in assists with 16.
Lesley will next travel to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a 7:00 pm match on February 17 against the Engineers.
