Romito Eclipses Field in 5K Win at Regis College Spring Classic

THE LEAD – First year Dawson Romito registered a first place finish in the men's 5k race, setting a PR with a time of 16:54.83 to lead the Lesley University Track & Field squad on Monday afternoon at the Regis College Spring Classic.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

  • Romito led the entirety of the race, pulling away from the field for the last 800m to secure his first win of the outdoor season. The rookie had previously secured a first place finish in his debut cross country appearance back on Sept. 2, 2023 at the Jim Sheehan Invitational.
  • Christian Castro also PR'd in the 200m race, clocking in at 24.14 to finish in fourth place in the event. 
  • The men's squad finished seventh in the team standings, scoring 14 total points while the host Pride took home the team win.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

  • Hailey Von Ahn posted a new collegiate PR in the 400m race with a time of 1:04.32 for a fifth place finish while running a season-low of 28.49 in the 200m
  • Mackenzie Mann knocked over a minute off her PR time in the 1500m race, coming in at 6:02.36 for a 15th place finish.
  • Along with Von Ahn, the Lynx also were represented in the 200m race by Sacha Porter, Lauren Rudolph and Raffaella Vogt with Porter and Rudolph registering new PRs.
  • Porter also recorded a PR in the 100m race.
  • The women's side placed 10th overall scoring two points on the day while the Suffolk University Rams captured the team win.

OF NOTE

  • Prior to the start of the racing events, Regis hosted a "Mascot Race" in which Lesley's mascot Lex the Lynx picked up a first place finish in the 100m dash of mascot friends.
  • Von Ahn, Castro, Porter and Romito all teamed up for a mixed 4x400 relay team to end the running events, finishing in third.

  • The Lynx are headed back to New Hampshire for the Southern New Hampshire University Penman Relays this Saturday, April 13th.
