THE LEAD – The Lesley University men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Salem State University on Wednesday evening at the Manchester Tennis Club.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salem State set the tone in doubles, securing clean sweeps (8-0, 8-0) in all three spots to take the 3-0 lead to head into singles.
  • The Vikings momentum carried into singles play when Quentin Wilkins (Hamilton, Mass.), Cory Cherico (Winthrop, Mass.), Mark Wood (Lynn, Mass.), and Michael Muttiah (Colombo, Sri Lanka) all defeated their counterparts in two sets without giving up a single point (6-0,6-0). Overall, the Vikings would only allow three total points during singles to guide them to the 9-0 victory.
  • The Lynx managed to post a few set wins in the singles action as Bennett Locke fell 6-1, 6-0 in No. 4 singles and Kevin Dorsey dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision in No. 6 singles.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The win was the first of the year for SSU.
  • Dorsey along with fellow first year Jordan Reffeor and senior Kai Burridge all made their collegiate debut in the match.

UP NEXT

  • Lesley is back in action this weekend when it travels to Vermont State Lyndon for a NAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon followed by a Sunday doubleheader vs. Vermont State Johnson. Both matches are scheduled to be played at Topnotch Tennis in Stowe, Vt.
  • The Vikings have a quick turnaround, hosting Thomas on April 11.
