Lynx Drop Regular Season Finale Against Rams

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University men's tennis team dropped the regular season finale to non-conference Suffolk University, 9-0, Thursday evening. First year Beowulf Urban (Blue hills, Maine) nearly took his second singles opponent, Jacob Duggan, to three sets before falling 6-3, 7-5.

Suffolk set the tone early sweeping the top spot. Duggan paired with teammate Francesco Saia was perfect against Urban and junior Niko Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) taking first doubles, 8-0. Cameron Roach and Charles Tange were not far behind taking third doubles, 8-2. Kevin Greenman and Rami Esrawi took second doubles from first years Evan Flaherty (Scituate, Mass.) and Patrick Corcoran (West Hartford, Conn.) by an identical score.

Tang set the tone in the singles portion of the competition sweeping junior Evan McDermod (Portsmouth, N.H.), 6-0, 6-0. Marcolini gave Saia a fight in first singles, taking him to nine games in each of his two sets before falling, 6-3, 6-3. Corcoran continued to show improvement on the courts battling Greenman in fourth singles but was unable to pull out the victory.

Lesley drops to 3-9 on the season while Suffolk improves to 2-7. The Lynx return to the courts Saturday afternoon when they travel to second-seed Becker College for the semifinals of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship Tournament at 1:00 p.m.
