Men's Tennis Falls to Rhode Island College in Non-Conference Action

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University men's tennis team fell to non-conference Rhode Island College, 9-0, Monday evening. First year William Tavares (Kingston, R.I.) led the way to the Anchormen's second victory of the season winning both his singles and doubles matches.

Rhode Island College wasted little time jumping out to the 3-0 lead with a sweep of doubles. Tavares paired with junior Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, R.I.) to defeat first years Beowulf Urban (Blue Hills, Maine) and Patrick Corcoran (West Hartford, Conn.) in first doubles, 8-2. Sophomore Chandler Scott (Ashaway, R.I.) and senior captain Cory Duquette (Warwick, R.I.) took second doubles by the same score. Sophomores Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick ,R.I.) and Alan Esposito (Clinton, Conn.) rounded out doubles with an 8-0 win in third doubles.

In singles, the Lynx were led by first year Evan Zona (Hingham, Mass.). Zona battled Duquette in fifth singles taking the Anchormen captain to 12 games before dropping the first set, 7-5. Duquette went on to claim fifth singles with a 6-0 win in set two. Urban gave Tavares a tough fight in first singles, taking the Rhode Island native to eight games before falling 6-2, 6-2.

Lesley drops to 3-6 on the season while Rhode Island improve to 2-5. The Lynx return to the court on Wednesday April 12th when they host Regis College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action at 7:30 p.m.
