Men's Tennis Drops Season Series Hawks

LEICESTER, Mass. --- The Lesley University men's tennis team dropped the season series to Becker College, 8-1, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action, Saturday afternoon. First year Evan Zona (Hingham, Mass.) won his second straight conference singles match knocking off Alex Kielczewski in sixth singles (7-5, 2-6, 10-4).

Becker was able to get the best of Lesley with a sweep of doubles. Aaron Peterson teamed with Connor Allison to edge out junior Niko Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) and first year Beowulf Urban (Blue Hills, Maine) win 8-5 at number one doubles. First year Peter Weiss (Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Max Anthony (Boston, Mass.) battled Edward Seol and Kielczewski in third doubles before falling, 8-5. Reigning Player of the Week Throngpol Chinpanjap and Thomas Lanphear rounded out doubles with an 8-4 win in second doubles.

In the singles portion of the competition, Peterson swept number one singles, 6-0, 6-0, while Allison won at number three, 6-1, 6-4. Chinpanjap was able to hold off Urban at number two singles, 6-3, 6-1. Junior Evan McDermod (Portsmouth, N.H.) battled Allison in his second set of third singles before falling 6-1, 6-4. 

Lesley drops to 2-2 in conference and 3-5 overall while Becker improves to 3-2 and 3-1 in the NECC. The Lynx of Lesley host Rhode Island College on Monday at 7:30 p.m. The Hawks of Becker will be back on the court on Sunday when they host Regis College in a rematch of the NECC's top two teams. Match time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
