Men's Tennis Fall to Non-Conference UMass-Dartmouth

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Lesley University men's tennis team dropped a non-conference match to UMass-Dartmouth, 9-0, Friday evening. The Corsairs snap a three-match losing streak improving to 2-7 while the Lynx drop to 3-4 on the season.  

UMass-Dartmouth opened the match with a sweep of doubles. Third doubles tandem Summer Forest-Bulley and Mark Desmond got the best of Lynx duo Peter Weiss (Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Evan McDermod (Portsmouth, N.H.), 8-0. Junior Niko Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) and first year Beowulf Urban (Blue Hills, Maine) took Corey Rafter and Anthony Joseph to 11 games in first doubles before falling 8-5. Justin Torres and Patrick Pacheco completed doubles holding off sophomore Adam Valladares (Middleton, N.H.) and first year Evan Flaherty (Scituate, Mass.), 8-1.

In the singles portion of the competition, Valladares played outstanding in fifth singles. Despite dropping the first set, 6-3, he gave the Corsairs' Eric Cimino a fight in the second set. The pair battled each other to a 6-6 tie before Cimino took the tie-breaker, 10-5.

Playing in his first singles match of his collegiate career, Weiss fell to Tommy Yong, 6-1, 6-2 in sixth singles. In third singles Flaherty answered a 6-0 shut-out in the first set by taking Forest-Bulley to nine games in the second before falling, 6-3.

The Lynx return to New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Leceister, Mass. to face Becker College at 1:00 p.m.
