Lynx Extend Win-Streak To Two Games with 5-4 win Over Wheelock

DORCHESTER, Mass. - The Lesley University men's tennis team increased their winning streak to two games with a 5-4 victory over Wheelock College in New Engladn Collegiate Conference (NECC) action. The Wildcats are now 0-6 and 0-3 in the NECC while the Lynx improve to 2-2 and 1-1 in conference.

Wheelock continued their success at first doubles as senior Matt Brown (Angola, Ind.) and sophomore Arvin Hedayaty (Tarzana, Calif.) defeated junior Niko Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) and rookie Beowulf Urban (Blue Hills, Maine), 8-2. Still, the visitors claimed the other two doubles matches to head into singles action leading 2-1.

In singles play, the top of the ticket flourished for the Wildcats. Hedayaty defeated Marcolini in straight sets 7-5, 6-0 while Brown cruised past freshman Evan Flaherty (Scituate, Mass.) 6-0, 6-0. In the most hard fought contest of the match, Wheelock junior Amos Jackson (El Paso, Texas) battled Urban to a three-set victory, dropping the first set 6-3 before rallying to win the other two sets 6-1, 6-4 and earn a point for the home team.

Despite the victories at the top positions, the Lynx would take home the 5-4 victory behind wins for junior Max Anthony (Cambridge, Mass.) as well as rookies Patrick Corcoran (West Hartford, Conn.) and Evan Zona (Hingham, Mass.).

Wheelock returns to action tomorrow when they head to Regis for a 4:30 p.m. NECC showdown while Lesley hosts Salve Regina at 7:30 p.m.
