Men's Tennis Falls to Wheelock

BOSTON, Mass. – Wheelock College topped Lesley University 9-0 in a New England Collegiate Conference Men's Tennis matchup tonight at the Sportsmen's Tennis Club. The win captures the regular season series sweep for the Wildcats over the Lynx as the hosts improve to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in NECC play. The loss drops the Lynx to 0-4 on the season and 0-4 in the conference standings.

Wheelock swept all three doubles matches and all six singles matches to cruise to the victory. The Wildcats tandem of Arvin Hedayaty (Tarzaba, Calif.) and sophomore Jordan Bernard (Westbrook, Conn.) earned an 8-1 win over Lynx top pairing of sophomore Niko Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) and senior Jack Tortorici (Grass Valley, Calif.) in the first singles flight. Lesley freshman Max Anthony (Cambridge, Mass.) and sophomore Alex Bonilla-Guevara (Cambridge, Mass.) fell to Wheelock juniors Matthew Brown (Angola, Ind.) and Will Spofford (Kennebunk, Maine) 8-0 in number two doubles before juniors Devon Mayo (Newport News, Va.) and Pierre St. Simon (Farmingdale, N.Y.) dropped an 8-1 decision in the third doubles match to freshman ReAnn Rivera (Salem, N.H.) and junior Jill Crane (Westmoreland, N.Y.).

Marcolini dropped the top singles match to Hadeyaty 6-1, 6-2 while Anthony fell victim to Bernard 6-0, 6-1 in the second match. In the fourth singles match, Brown defeated Tortorici 6-1, 6-0 before Wheelock junior Nicholas Fenton (East Hartford, Conn.) topped Mayo 6-1, 6-1 in the number five match. Spofford and freshman Antonio Chavderov (New Port Richey, Fla.) wrapped up the evening with 6-0, 6-0 victories in fourth and sixth singles, respectively.

The Lynx will continue NECC play on Saturday and travel to Becker College for a 1:00p matchup with the Hawks while the Wildcats will play host to Albertus Magnus College in a non-conference affair at 5:00p on Sunday.
