Wheelock Too Much For Men's Tennis

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University men's tennis team dropped a New England Conference matchup to Wheelock College, 9-0, tonight at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The loss drops the Lynx to 0-2 on the season and 0-2 in NECC play while the Wildcats pick up their first win of the season and improve to 1-4 overall while starting conference play at 1-0.

Wheelock swept through all three doubles matches by 8-0 scores. Freshman Arvin Hedayaty (Tarzana, Calif.) and sophomore Jordan Bernard (Westbrook, Conn.) topped Lesley's first pairing of sophomore Niko Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) and junior Harrison Sidell (Newhall, Calif.) before Wildcats juniors Matthew Brown (Angola, Ind.) and Will Spofford (Kennebunk, Maine) earned victory over senior Jack Tortorici (Grass Valley, Calif.) and sophomore Max Anthony (Cambridge, Mass.) in the number two slot. Junior Jill Crane (Westmoreland, N.Y.) and freshman ReAnn Rivera (Salem, N.H.) completed the doubles sweep for Wheelock by blanking Lesley junior Wilton Zuo (Boston, Mass.) and freshman Enzo Bertolotti (New York, N.Y.).

Hedayaty earned his second victory of the night as he outlast Marcolini 6-2, 6-3 in the first singles while Bernard won a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Anthony in the second match. Brown retired Tortorici 6-0, 6-0 in number three singles. Sidell earned a 7-6 victory in the opening set of fourth singles, before Spofford came back for the win with set scores of 6-0 and 10-7. The Wildcats kept the momentum moving forward, gaining 6-0, 6-0 victories in the fifth and sixth flights, respectively.

The Lynx will be back in action on Monday, April 4th when they welcome NECC foe Mitchell College to Cambridge at 7:30p. The Wildcats will return to conference action on Saturday with a 1:00p matchup at Becker College.
