CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University had their season and home opener spoiled by Becker College as the Hawks swept past the Lynx 9-0 in New England Collegiate Conference Men's Tennis play tonight at the Nicholas Athletics Center.
The Hawks rolled to three straight wins in the doubles portion of the match before taking all six singles matches to start their 2016 campaign at 1-0.
Becker's top tandem of Daniel Dettinger-Klemm (Centerville, Mass.) and Aaron Peterson (San Diego, Calif.) defeated Lesley's first pairing of Niko Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) and Chris Barletta (Valrico, Fla.) 8-3 before the Hawks' Brittan Morris (Cedar Park, Texas) and Aaron Peterson (San Diego, Calif.) slipped past Jack Tortorici (Grass Valley, Calif.) and Max Anthony (Cambridge, Mass.) 8-2 in the second pairing.
Becker completed the doubles sweep when Throngpol Chinpanjapol (Barre, Mass.) an Francis Musick (Laurel Springs, N.J.) teamed up and down Lesley's pairing of Enzo Bertolotti (New York, N.Y.) and Charlie Reznikoff (Wilton, Conn.) 8-0 to stake a 3-0 match lead heading into singles play.
The Hawks cruised through singles play, taking five matches by 6-0, 6-0 set scores. Dettinger-Klemm downed Marcolini in the top slot 6-0, 6-0 while Peterson followed suit with a shutout of Anthony in second singles. Morris earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Tortorici in the third singles match before Chinpanjapol and Lanphear took fifth and sixth singles, respectively, by the same score.
Barletta gave Allison trouble in the fourth flight, taking the opening set 6-3, but the Hawks junior would battle back and even the match with a 6-2 second set victory before taking the match with a 10-6 third set tiebreak.
The Lynx will return to the Nicholas Athletics Center on Thursday, March 31st and host NECC foe Wheelock College at 7:30p. The Hawks will get back into conference play on Tuesday, March 29th when they travel to New London, Conn. for a tilt with Mitchell College at 3:00p.
