Mitchell Sweeps Through Men's Tennis

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College swept through doubles and singles play in a 9-0 victory over Lesley University on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference men's tennis action at the Mitchell Tennis Courts.

In doubles play, Mitchell cruised to 8-2 wins at the No. 1 and 3 positions behind the play of Adam Diaz (Bellerose Village, N.Y.) and Orson Sinclair (New London, Conn.) and Chris McKeon (North Scituate, R.I.) and Anthony Drake (Wethersfield, Conn.), respectively. The match at No. 2 was closely contested as Graham Cavanaugh (Redding, Conn.) and Zack Rocheleau (Winchendon, Mass.) outlasted Lesley's Harrison Sidell (Newhall, Calif.) and Joshua Marcellino (New Sharon, Mainee) to win 8-6.

With the 3-0 lead after doubles, the Mariners picked up victories in straight sets in all six singles matches. The showdown between Diaz and Niko Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) at No. 1 went to a tiebreaker in the second set, with the former coming out on top 9-7 to post a 6-4, 7-6 win.

Cavanaugh and Sinclair posted wins at No. 2 and 3 over Sidell and Baker, respectively, while Michael Berman (Fair Lawn, N.J.) earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Marcellino. Michael Edwards (Bozrah, Conn.) and McKeon rounded out the winners on the day at the final two spots, posting victories over Tortorici and Webb.

Lesley returns to action at home against Salve Regina University tomorrow at noon while Mitchell will next play at Albertus Magnus College on Sunday, April 12 at 1 p.m.
