CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University earned the season sweep over Newbury College this evening with a 6-3 victory in New England Collegiate Conference action at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The Lynx, who defeated the Nighthawks 5-4 back on March 31st, improve to 2-6 on the season and 2-3 in the NECC with the win. The loss drops Newbury to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Newbury got on the board first as their top doubles pairing of Antonios Tran (Chelsea, Mass.) and Joey Verdon (Catskill, N.Y.) topped Lesley's first duo of Niko Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) and Jack Tortorici (Grass Valley, Calif.) 8-4. The Lynx recovered, however, and took a 2-1 lead in the match following wins in second and third doubles. Torres continued his solid play for the Nighthawks in singles play as he topped Marcolini 6-0, 6-0. Newbury would take a brief 3-2 lead on the night as Gethers defeated Santos 6-3, 6-2 in number three singles before Lesley's Tortorici clipped Al-Noor 6-1, 6-3 in the number four match to even things at 3-3.

After dropping the first set 6-7, Sidell came storming back to take the next two sets 6-2, 10-6 to earn a key victory in the second flight over Verdon before Vitta clinched the match for the Lynx with a 6-3, 6-1 over Ross in sixth singles. Panek wrapped up the night with a 6-3, 6-1 win of his own over Rodriguez.
