Men's Tennis Falls to Emerson

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Emerson College rolled to a 9-0 win over Lesley University in non-conference action tonight at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The Lions picked up their first victory of the season with the triumph as they improve to 1-3 on the year while the Lynx fall to 1-6 overall.

Emerson's top pairing of Nik Rhodes and Matt Jenkins swept through Lesley freshman Niko Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) and sophomore Billy Baker (Sacramento, Calif.) 8-0 before Joshua Freud and Spencer Sabo downed Lynx sophomores Harrison Sidell (Newhall, Calif.) and Joshua Marcellino (New Sharon, Maine) in number two doubles. Emerson's Aren Kabarajian and Matthew Jepsky completed the doubles sweep for the Lions, posting an 8-1 win over junior Jack Tortorici (Grass Valley, Calif.) and James Webb (San Francisco, Calif.).

Rhodes kept the Lions hot after the doubles portion of the match as he moved past Marcolini in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 in the top singles flight. Jenkins clinched the match for Emerson with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Baker in number two singles before Blake Greenawalt topped Tortorici 6-0, 6-1 in the number four match. Sabo downed Marcellino 6-2, 6-1in the fourth singles match before Samir Beria finished the night with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Both teams will return to action on Monday as the Lynx travel to Curry College for a non-conference match at 3:00p while the Lions will play host to Wheelock College at 8:30p at the Winchester Indoor Tennis Club.
