Mitchell Swings Past Men's Tennis

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Mitchell College recorded their second straight win as they earned an 8-1 decision over Lesley University in New England Collegiate Conference play this evening at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The Mariners took two out of three doubles matches before sweeping their way through the singles portion of the match to secure the victory.

Mitchell moves to 2-0 on the young season and start their NECC schedule with a 1-0 mark. With the loss, Lesley drops to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

Mitchell's top pairing of sophomores Adam Diaz (Bellerose Village, N.Y.) and Orson Sinclair (New London, Conn.) topped the Lesley duo of freshman Niko Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) and sophomore Billy Baker (Sacramento, Calif.) by a score of 8-2 before Mariners juniors Graham Cavanaugh (Redding, Conn.) and Zack Rocheleau (Winchendon, Mass.) raced to an 8-1 win over Lynx sophomore Josh Marcellino (New Sharon, Maine) and junior Jack Tortorici (Grass Valley, Calif.) in the second doubles flight.

Lesley junior Ian Barber (Westhampton, Mass.) and freshman James Webb (San Francisco, Calif.) earned their second straight victory in third doubles match, posting an 8-5 decision over Mitchell senior Chris McKeon (North Scituate, R.I.) and junior Michael Hartley (Paris, France).

Cavanaugh captured the victory in number two singles over Baker 6-1, 6-1 before Diaz earned his second win the evening over Marcolini, battling past the Lesley freshman by a score of 6-3, 6-4. Sinclair sealed the win for the Mariners with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Marcellino in the third singles match.

Mitchell junior Michael Berman (Fair Lawn, N.J.) topped Tortorici 6-1, 6-0 in number four singles while senior Michael Edwards (Bozrah, Conn.) swept Webb 6-0, 6-0 in the fifth flight. McKeon wrapped up the night with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the sixth and final match of the night.

The Lynx return to play tomorrow when they host Emerson College in a non-conference match at 7:30p while the Mariners are off until Monday, April 6th as they open their home schedule in an NECC tilt against Becker College.
