Men's Tennis Drops Season Opener at Wheelock

NATICK, Mass. – Lesley University dropped a 5-4 decision to Wheelock College tonight in the season opener for the Lynx. Lesley earned two out of three in doubles before the Wildcats fought back to score four out of six in the singles portion to take the match and improve to 1-3 on the season.

The Lynx got off to a strong start as sophomore Billy Baker (Sacramento, Calif.) and freshman Niko Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) teamed up to take an 8-6 decision in the top doubles slot before sophomore Harrison Sidell (Newhall, Calif.) and junior Jack Tortorici (Grass Valley, Calif.) scored an 8-4 victory in number two doubles.

Wheelock got on the board with an 8-6 win in third doubles as Matt Fason and Nick Fenton defeated Lesley freshman James Webb (San Francisco, Calif.) and junior Ian Barber (Westhampton, Mass.).

After struggling in the doubles portion of the match, the Wildcats found success in singles as Matt Brown downed Marcolini 6-0, 6-2 in the first flight while Fason defeated Webb in a 6-0, 6-2 decision of his own in No. 5 singles. Fenton earned Wheelock's third singles win as he topped Barber 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 6 match while Crane clinched the Wildcats win with a three set win at the fourth position.

Sidell and Baker secured singles victories for the Lynx in the second and third matches, respectively.

Lesley will open up their home schedule as they welcome Albertus Magnus College tomorrow at 8:00p at the Nicholas Athletic Center.
