Men's Tennis Home Opener Spoiled By Albertus Magnus

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Lesley University saw their home opener spoiled by Albertus Magnus College tonight as the Falcons earned a 9-0 decision over the Lynx. With loss drops the Lynx to 0-2 to open their season while the Falcons improve to 2-0 with their second straight victory. AMC rolled to a 3-0 lead following the doubles portion of the match before taking all six singles matches to earn the 9-0 sweep.

The Falcons top tandem of senior Pete Zacharias (North Haven, Conn.) and freshman Jeff Pellegrino (Meridan, Conn.) topped the Lynx duo of freshman Niko Marcolini (Newbury, Mass.) and sophomore Billy Baker (Sacramento, Calif.) by an 8-3 tally before senior Ross Suleski (Amesbury, Mass.) and junior Matt Mezzei (Wallingford, Conn.) earned an 8-2 decision in No. 2 doubles. AMC sophomore Dan Constantinidi (North Branford, Conn.) and junior Ahmed Abdulateef (Hamden, Conn.) finished the sweep in the doubles portion of the night as they posted an 8-4 victory over Lynx junior Ian Barber (Westhampton, Mass.) and senior Jordan Santos (Middlebury, Conn.) in the third match.

Zacharias continued his momentum in the top singles match as he posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Marcolini while Suleski took a 7-5 win in the first set of the second flight, but Sidell retired in the second due to injury. Pellegrino topped Baker 6-3, 6-1 in No. 3 singles and Mezzei posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Tortorici in the fourth match. Constantinidi and senior Elvis Santana (Bronx, N.Y.) earned victories in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches, respectively, to secure the 9-0 sweep for the Falcons.

The Lynx are back in action on Friday as they play their third match in four days when they welcome Becker College to Cambridge at 6:30 to kick of their New England Collegiate Conference schedule. The Falcons are off until Saturday when they play host to Norwich University at 1:00p.
