Men's Tennis Falls to Salve in Season Finale

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Lesley University men's tennis team dropped their season-finale this afternoon by a clean sweep from host Salve Regina University, 9-0. The Lynx finish their season at 2-11 overall while the Seahawks earned their first victory of the year to finish at 1-11.

The Salve tandem of Colin Gunning (Norwell, Mass.) and Matthew Carroll (Hackensack, N.J.) topped Lesley freshman Harrison Sidell (Newhall, Calif.) and sophomore Trevor Martin (Whitinsville, Mass.) by a score of 8-5 in No. 1 doubles, while Matt Gingras (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Monaf Awwa (Old Lyme, Conn.) defeated Chris Hunt (San Diego, Calif.) and Billy Baker (Sacramento, Calif.), 8-1 in second doubles.

In third doubles, Ned Richard (Kennebunk, Maine) and Steve Caruso (Peabody, Mass.) swept to an 8-0 victory over Aqib Shah (Watertown, Mass.) and Jack Tortorici (Grass Valley, Calif.).

Gunning defeated Sidell in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0 before Awwa clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win in second singles.

Carrol defeated Martin 6-1, 6-1 in the third singles flight while Gingras claimed a straight set victory over Baker, 6-2, 6-2.

The Seahawks completed the sweep when freshman C.J. Maskut (Saco, Me.) defeated Hunt 6-0, 6-1 in No. 5 singles and Tavio Gonsalves (Nantucket, Mass.) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 6 singles.
