Men's Tennis Earns Second Straight Win Over Wheelock

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University men's tennis team earned their second consecutive win this evening, earning an 8-1 decision over Wheelock College. The win marks the second time in the week that the Lynx have defeated the Wildcats after they picked up a 9-0 sweep at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols this past Tuesday. The Lynx improve to 2-9 on the season and 2-7 in New England Collegiate Conference play while the Wildcats are still in search of their first win as they fall to 0-10 overall and 0-9 in the NECC.

Lynx senior Aqib Shah (Watertown, Mass.) and sophomore Trevor Martin (Whitinsville, Mass.) teamed up to earn an 8-3 victory over Claire O'Donoghue (East Haven, Conn.) and Sunshine Shearer (English Harbour, Antigua) in No.1 doubles.

The Wildcats evened the match at 1-1 as Will Spofford (Kennebunk, Maine) and Linda Le (Methuen, Mass.) downed Lynx sophomore Jack Tortorici (Grass Valley, Calif.) and freshman Chris Anderson (Daly City, Calif.), 8-4. The Lynx were awarded No. 3 doubles by forfeit.

Shah earned his second victory of the night in a hard fought 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 win over Donoghue in No. 1 singles while Martin followed with a straight sets victory over Spofford, 6-4, 6-4.

Freshman Billy Baker (Sacramento, Calif.) earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory in No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-1 while sophomore Chris Hunt (San Diego, Calif.) topped Le 6-0, 6-0 in the fourth singles flight.

The Lynx earned victories by forfeit in No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

Lesley will return to NECC action tomorrow when they travel to Newbury College at 11:00p. The match will be played on the campus of Pine Manor College.
