Men's Tennis Falls to Becker in Home Opener

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Lesley University men's tennis team dropped their home opener in an 8-1 decision to New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) foe Becker College this evening at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. With the setback, the Lynx fall to 0-2 on the season and start conference play at an 0-1 mark while the Hawks improve to an even 1-1 on the season and 1-1 in the NECC.

The Becker freshman tandem of Bernardo MacAroun (Santa Doroteia, Brazil) and Aaron Peterson (San Diego, Calif.) were on the winning end of an 8-0 match over Lesley freshman Harrison Sidell (Newhall, Calif.) and sophomore Trevor Martin (Whitinsville, Mass.) in No. 1 doubles. Brian Fradsham (West Boylston, Mass.) and William Humpfryes (Falmouth, Mass.) followed up with an 8-0 win of their own over Jack Tortorici (Grass Valley, Calif.) and Tyler Armstrong (Grand Isle, Vt.) in the third doubles flight.

Becker first year Tyler Newsome (Brantford, Ont.) and sophomore Brittan Morris (Cedar Park, Tx.) battled to an 8-6 victory over Lesley freshman Billy Baker (Sacramento, Calif.) and sophomore Chris Hunt (San Diego, Calif.) in an exciting No. 2 doubles match to complete the Hawks' sweep in the doubles portion of the match.

MacAroun, Peterson, and Fradsham all used scores of 6-0, 6-2 to pick up victories in No. 1, 2, and 3 singles, respectively.

After dropping the first set 4-6, Baker rallied to grab a 6-2 win in the second set before outlasting Newsome in a dramatic 11-9 third set to pick up the lone win of the night for the hosts in No. 4 singles.

Morris retired Hunt in straight sets of 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 5 singles match while Guillermo Romera Rodriguez (Madrid, Spain) defeated Tortorici in the sixth and final match of the night as the Hawks rolled to the 8-1 finish.

Lesley will be back in action on Friday, March 28th when they host Mitchell College in NECC play at 7:30p. Becker will also return to NECC action on Friday when they travel to Wheelock College for a 3:30p start.
