Anna Maria Spoils Men's Tennis Opener

PAXTON, Mass. – The Lesley University men's tennis team dropped their season opener this evening as Anna Maria College took an 8-1 decision over the Lynx. The AMCATS move to 1-3 on the season while the Lynx start their 2014 campaign at 0-1.

AMC sophomore Dillon George (Holden, Mass.) and junior Calvin Weeks (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) teamed up in first doubles to take an 8-0 decision over Lesley freshman Harrison Sidell (Newhall, Calif.) and sophomore Trevor Martin (Whitinsville, Mass.). Sophomore Tim Patenaude (Monson, Mass.) and junior George Kiritsy (Holden, Mass.) topped Lynx freshman Billy Baker (Sacramento, Calif.) and sophomore Chris Hunt (San Diego, Calif.) by a score of 8-6 to take the doubles portion of the match.

AMC's George and Weeks started the hosts off on the right foot in the singles portion of the match as each grabbed 6-0, 6-0 victories in first and second singles, respectively.

Baker won the first match of his career and put the Lynx on the board in third singles for their only win of the night. Baker defeated Patenaude in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

Lesley's Hunt dropped a hard fought match in the fourth flight, falling to AMC  junior  Kiritsy 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. After dropping the first set 6-1, Lesley sophomore Jack Tortorici (Grass Valley, Calif.) nearly notched things up in the second set, but dropped the second tiebreak 7-6 (6-2) as Tyler Crabb (Wareham, Mass.) picked up the fifth set victory.

The Lynx will open up their home schedule on Wednesday, March 24th when they welcome Becker College to Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols at 8:00p.
