Lynx Best Hawks in NECC Match-Up, 3-0

Cambridge, Mass— The Lesley University Men's soccer team defeated Becker College, 3-0 in an NECC conference match Tuesday night at Edward Field in Cambridge.  With the win, Lesley improves to 7-6-1 overall and 3-1 in conference.   The Hawks drop to 3-12 overall, and 0-4 in NECC play.

The match started as a 0-0 stalemate for the majority of the first half.  Both the Lynx and Hawks were able to create scoring opportunities early but were denied by the play of keepers Patrick Corcoran (West Harford, Conn) of Lesley and Sam Majewski (Warren, Mass) of Becker.

At the ten-minute mark, the Hawks' Brennan Rattenni (West Greenwhich, RI) created a scoring chance in front of a vacant goal, but was denied by a diving Anthony Vitta (Oceanside, N.Y.) to keep the score tied at zero.

Both teams displayed tenacious defense for the next twenty-minutes of the first half, but at the thirty-seven-minute mark, the Lynx were able to strike, with a goal from Beowulf Urban (Blue Hills, Maine).

The Lynx held the 1-0 advantage for the remainder of the first half, and immediately added to their lead just seven seconds into the second half.  Carter Bliss (Roseville, CA) created a scoring lane for Anthony Vitta who finessed his way past a diving Majewski and found the back of the goal, making it 2-0.

The Lynx commanded the rest of the second half and added an insurance goal at the sixty-seventh minute.  Ben Heischuber (Holliston, Mass) made the most of an indirect free kick and crossed it directly in front of the Hawks goal setting-up a one-timed header from Enzo Bertolotti (New York, N.Y.), arriving at the final score 3-0.

"It was a good conference win versus a scrappy Becker side.  We played a very solid second half which allowed us to come away with the victory and clean sheet."
-Head Coach Jim Costa

Lesley looks to add to their conference win-streak on Saturday, October 21st, as they travel to conference foe Wheelock College for a 4:00pm start.  Up next for Becker will be a home NECC match-up against Dean College.
