Vitta Lifts Lynx Past Curry

Cambridge,Mass– The Lesley University Men's Soccer team defeated Curry College, 1-0, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at the Walter M. Katz Field. With the win, the Lynx improve to 4-6-1 and the Colonels are now 6-5-1.

The first half of play was a battle between both teams, with neither gaining an advantage on the scoreboard. The Lynx were able to overcome a 9-3 disadvantage in shots to keep the Colonels from gaining a lead. The effort of sophomore keeper David Crutchfield (Shrewsbury, Mass.) helped Lesley keep the score at 0-0, as he made two critical stops. Curry's sophomore keeper Paul DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.) matched Crutchfield with two saves of his own.

Senior Anthony Vitta (Oceanside, N.Y.) was able to break the stalemate 10 minutes into the second half with a one-timer that made it past the hands of DeMaio. The goal was set-up by a free-kick outside the 18-yard box after a foul was called on Curry. The Colonels had some good chances to get on the board but Crutchfield continued his fined play in net.

Crutchfield earned the win for the Lynx including the shutout with five saves. DeMaio was credited with the loss in goal for the Colonels with four stops.

The Lynx will host Newbury College in an NECC matchup on Saturday, October 7th at 8:00 pm. Curry returns to the field on Friday when they host Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Eastern Nazarene at 6:30 p.m.
