Lynx Beat Emerson in Charles River Cup Battle

Cambridge, Mass- The Lesley University Mens Soccer team beat the Emerson Lions, 2-1 in the 12th Annual Charles River Cup Wednesday evening at Rotch Field.  With the win in the non-conference match the Lynx improve to 3-5 (0-1 NECC) while the Lions slip to 3-5-1 (0-2 NEMAC).

Lesley broke the even score in the 20th minute of play when Freshman Carter Bliss (Roseville, CA) connected with Senior Anthony Vitta (Oceanside, NY) for the goal and early lead.  A defensive miscue allowed Vitta to collect the ball off Emerson Goalie's initial save and put the ball in the empty net.

Just ten minutes after the Lynx took the lead, the Lions were able to tie the score when Sophomore Gavin Faucette (Oakland, CA) fired the equalizer passed the diving Lesley goalie, Senior James Webb (San Francisco CA).  James Suvak and Galileo Mondol were credited with the assists with quick passing inside the box.

Just ten minutes into the second half, Bliss carried a pass in from Vitta up the right wing and snuck the game winning goal into the lefthand corner passed the Lions goalie, Lucas Fischer.

"The boys played a great match, probably the best of the season to this point," said head coach Jim Costa.  "Our back line was dominant and the team's work rate on both sides of the ball were excellent.  A real team win, they deserved to raise the cup at the end of the match."

Lesley outshot Emerson 17-7, while both teams had an even 2-2 in corner kicks.

The Lynx next host Emmanuel College on Saturday September 30 at 1:00pm.
